Final Piece/Exhibition

16/05/13 Exhibition
Overall I am very pleased with what we created for the final exhibition. The projection on the glass crescent was interesting and worked well. I liked the individual pieces by each Photography/Film student as well and I think we covered a lot of aspects of Hulme. We managed to pull all of our work together effectively at the end and have to thank Maddy (Film Making) for editing the final projection together. If there was one disappointment with the piece it is that Kat did not finish off the glass with rubble at the bottom like she said she was going to do. I really liked the idea of 'new being built from the old' and it is a shame that it was not like this at the end.

Below are my final images which were used in the projection. As well as using the 'flower line' photographs, I also included images that I took in my original shoot of Hulme. I think this helped to contextualise the installation further.

14/05/13 Exhibition Set Up
On this day we set up the exhibition space. The set up is as follows: glass installation on one table, projector and DVD player on another in front of it. The film/photography is looped for an hour and stored on a DVD which is played through the DVD player. The DVD player is connected to the projector which projects the film on to the glass in front of it. Only one problem being Kat didn't turn up with the glass panels she made. She did put them up on Wednesday morning however so it was okay in the end.

13/05/13 Checking Exhibition Space
On this day I viewed the space which some other members of my team secured on Thursday. Me and Natalie made sure everything was going to be okay with setting up on Tuesday. We made sure that we were definitely allocated two tables, a projector, a DVD player and an extension cable.

Shoots

12/05/13 Flower Line Shoot
I was a bit more lucky with the weather this day. I managed to get four different dandelion lines arranged in four different locations. I had always thought that the lines were best on a hill but after making one on flat ground I realised I actually preferred it like that as the line seemed to have a lot more impact. It was also more effective on short grass rather than long as the grass didn't over shadow it. I didn't think the flower line would have as much impact on the concrete floor of the Joy Division bridge but I actually liked it. The difference between the grey tiles and the bright yellow flowers show a stark contrast between nature and man.

11/05/13 Flower Line Shoot
I went out with the intention of finishing off my photos today however I only got one line of dandelions arranged before a thunderstorm began. I laid out these flowers in a different park in Hulme to add some variety. The line isn't as noticeable in these images but I think that the drastic change in weather from the last shoot is interesting. The hail that is seen bouncing off the ground and falling in front of the camera, combined with the dark clouds, creates an eerie atmosphere. This could make the viewer question whether Hulme's future is 'stormy'.

Final Piece/Exhibition

09/05/13 Test Projection
When we got to the studio, thinking we were about to film our final piece, we found out that the projector we had hired for that hour had not been returned. I went to find Alan (Photography tutor) to see what we could do and he gave us Jenny's to borrow (3D Design tutor). After we had set up and recorded the installation we went to take the projector back to Jenny and she said that we could probably borrow it for the exhibition too! I am really happy about that as it means I will be able to do a couple more shoots over the weekend and include them in the projection. We won't need the TV anymore which is good aswell as the installation looks a lot better in person.

Overall, the projection worked really well. It showed up on the glass nicely and the fragmentation was really interesting. I am proud of what we have produced. Unfortunately I don't have the video to include on here as there were difficulties in sending it to each other.

Final Piece/Exhibition

Exhibition Equipment
Today we found out that there were no projectors left at the AV store for us to borrow for the exhibition. Our group has to give credit to Natalie for running around all day trying to sort it out for us and we have ended up with a 14 inch TV and a DVD player. This way we can film the projection and display it on the TV at the exhibition. Natalie had also booked out the day light studio for us tomorrow to test the projection but we will now use this oppurtunity to film the final installation for the TV. Unfortunately I have been finishing off other work this week and haven't got round to doing more shoots as I had intended to do. I will just have to use the images I have already created in the projection, but if I had known this was going to be the final piece I would have photographed more for tomorrow.
